What Is Thin Content?

Thin content is a page with little substantive value, often because it’s too short, low-effort, duplicated, or fails to genuinely address what a searcher is looking for.

Example

A product page with just a title, price, and a single one-sentence description, with no unique details, specifications, or context beyond what’s on a hundred other retailer’s pages selling the same item, is considered thin content.

Why it matters

Thin content rarely ranks well and can drag down perceptions of overall site quality if it makes up a large share of a site’s pages. Consolidating, expanding, or removing thin pages is a common technical and content SEO fix.
