A knowledge graph is a search engine’s database of entities, such as people, places, and organizations, and the relationships between them, used to power information panels shown alongside search results.

Searching a well-known company’s name might trigger a knowledge panel showing its founding date, headquarters, and key executives, all pulled from the search engine’s knowledge graph rather than a single webpage.

Why it matters

Being accurately represented in a knowledge graph strengthens how confidently a search engine understands and displays information about an entity, which is increasingly relevant as AI systems also draw on these structured relationships.
